A tree grove, two wonderful models, a great hair and makeup team, a great assistant, the perfect jewelry from Adelina Mictlan, and beautiful gowns from Rose Mortem all came together for the Auxiliary Magazine February/March 2013 Issue Designer Spotlight on Rose Mortem. I wore a couple hats on set that day working as fashion stylist and creative director in addition to shooting. The trick is lots of planning ahead of the shoot so it all goes smoothly day of. I always love it when I get to style shoots, especially when there are pieces as stunning as these involved! You can see more of this fashion feature at auxiliarymagazine.com.
The great team behind Cats Like Us posed with their beloved cats for this holiday card that went out to their customers and vendors. They ended up printing a postcard which is a great marketing option as it means less postage and it can double as a flyer for promotion and networking. I love when companies take a personal and stylized approach to holiday cards. There is little point to sending out boring pre-made cards, they are forgotten almost instantly. But add a little creativity to your holiday card and it is a highly enjoyed and sincere thank you to clients and business associates.
I took this shot of Nero Bellum of Psyclon Nine for Auxiliary Magazine’s 7 Deadly Questions interview series. This was a challenging shoot as they were only in town for one day I met them at the venue Broadway Joe’s in Buffalo to get a couple quick shots before their show. It is a small punky dive type venue and we shot this in the back patio area. You can see this photo in the October/November 2013 Issue of Auxiliary Magazine.
Last year I worked with retro inspired clothing boutique Cats Like Us to shoot this series of photographs for new advertisements and promo materials. Cats Like Us has a brick and mortar shop in Tonawanda, New York a suburb of Buffalo and a successful website shop. Every time we shoot a new series of advertising photos we aim to get a good variety of shots so they have several options for printed postcards and flyers, magazine and event program advertisements, and online advertisements. The lovely and talented shop owner Julie Ann, one half of the great duo behind this boutique, is the face of their company and models the fun wears they sell.
Over the last couple years I have shot a few of the one page closer feature titled Must for Auxiliary Magazine. I have kept the same goal in mind of creating a clean and direct shot to allow the featured fashion item to be the focus and in doing this they have become a nice little series. You can see this photo and how it pairs with the others in my “fashion 2” portfolio at jennifer-link.com. I also styled this look that features a faux fur coat by Bettie Page Clothing. For the styling I drew from Fall 2012 runway trends. I specifically looked at Gucci’s Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear runway show in Milan for fashion forward details to place around the coat: brocade trousers, round sunglasses, and dark lipstick. I love the dialogue between high fashion designers and subculture fashion that has been happening for years and years, one influencing the another, round and around and back again.
