We did it! I’m a married lady. It’s been a whirlwind and a busy last few months. Our wedding was lovely and a week after it we went on our honeymoon to Playa del Carmen!
Over five years ago myself and three other editors founded Auxiliary Magazine as a magazine for alternative fashion, music, and lifestyle. I had been shooting alternative fashion editorials for a while and couldn’t find the perfect outlet for them, so we created one. Since then I have had the privilege of working with countless photographers and writers and featuring countless designers, artists, and musicians. It has been a great five years!
To get Auxiliary to the next level and to send the magazine to print, we are pre-selling subscriptions via Kickstarter. Kickstarter is the best known crowd funding website and a great way for artists and musicians and other creatives to independently fund their projects. The Kickstarter is the first time Auxiliary has offered subscriptions and one of the rewards for backing is the first Auxiliary Magazine T-shirt, it’s very exciting for us!
Please consider backing and getting a digital or print subscription. You’ll see my photography (plus my editing, art direction, styling, and writing skills) in each issue plus tons of other amazing work from many other amazing creatives. There are only five days left to back so get all the details, watch the video, check out our rewards packages, subscribe, and help spread the word!
For a long time I have wanted to better document my wardrobe, style, and day to day outfits. I love seeing others’ style on blogs and find what we choose to wear can add fun, flavor, and well style to our lives. I also hope this exercise will encourage me to dress up and play with my wardrobe a bit more. I find being so busy sometimes I gravitate to comfy and easy and put my creativity into styling outfits for editorials and conceptualizing fashion features for Auxiliary. That creativity doesn’t always make it to my personal outfits and style. Hopefully this will help me take my outfits up a notch more often than not!
After a date night with my boyfriend we randomly stopped at the Japanese Gardens, right before the rain. to see the cherry blossoms in bloom. I took some photos of the blossoms and this is what I wore.
Once a month for about a year I had a standing photoshoot date with Master Hair Designer Erin Moser of Chez Ann Salon. She coordinated a series of portraits of loyal and interesting clients styled by many different hair stylists and makeup artists at Chez Ann. These are two of my favorites from the series!
Today weddings are taking on many forms with many brides and grooms thinking outside the box and opting to for more unique and customized weddings that truly reflect them. Jennifer and Richard had rented out a camp ground for the weekend and asked their guests to join them for a camping wedding! Guests enjoyed campfires, crafts, and games. Groomsmen and bridesmaids were “camp counselors” and wore customized T-shirts. The groom wore a relaxed linen suit and sandals. The bride wore a handmade crochet dress. I shot their wedding photos around the lake in the center of the camp; it provided a beautiful setting.
Over the years I have been asked to shoot weddings hear and there. I have had the pleasure of shooting some unique and fun weddings and it has given me the desire to shoot more. If you are planning a unique wedding or know someone who is, consider a photographer who is used to unique and specific aesthetics! (AKA me!)
